Project Linus

... Providing Security Through Blankets

http://www.projectlinus.org/

Christmas Eve, 1995

An article appears in Parade Magazine entitled 'Joy to the World' by Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist, Eddie Adams. Part of the article features a petite, downy haired child. She has been going through intensive chemotherapy and states that her security blanket has helped her get through the treatments. Karen Loucks-Baker decides to provide homemade security blankets to Denver's Rocky Mountain Children's Cancer Center. Project Linus is born.

September, 1998

Project Linus has over 175 chapters in the United States, Canada and has recently added a chapter in Australia! To date, Project Linus has delivered over 40,000 security blankets to children around the country undergoing difficult situations. Originally targeting pediatric cancer patients, Project Linus has broadened its focus aiming toward seriously ill or traumatized children ... children in need of a big hug. A recent article in Family Circle magazine has spurred interest in Project Linus across the country.

How you can help:

Make a blanket and donate it to your local chapter of Project Linus. They will take it to a facility where it will be given to a deserving child permanently. Ideal blanket: We need all sizes of blankets, as we deal with children ranging from neonatal to young adults. Blankets can be made from any pattern, in child friendly colors, and they must be washable.
Get your community involved --- churches, schools, senior centers, sewing guilds, craft shops, are all excellent places to find potential blanket donors. Everyone knows a crafter. Tell them about Project Linus!
Call (303) 840-1116 for more ideas on what you can do. Anyone, any age can help these children. It's within your power to make a difference.
Make a tax deductible monetary donation to help defray costs of our 100% volunteer effort. Checks should be made payable to, "Project Linus" and sent to the following address.
